“Elephant Family and Jungle City”

Jun 25, 2012

AET: I am very disappointed in Elephant Family and Jungle City for using an image of a man sitting on top of an elephant burdened with not only a howdah but many other bags in order to promote a trek on foot in the Himalayas. As elephant experts know, the asian elephant’s back curve upwards so any heavy weight that’s placed on it causes great pain and discomfort for the elephant. It’s because of this that so many tourists have been thrown off the elephant’s back in trekking camps. Elephant Family claims to be in the conservation of elephants – yet they promote an event by using the imagery of obvious elephant abuse.
